Lancaster lies on the A6, the Great North-West Road; the city's shopping centre is largely defined by the A6 one-way system.
There is usually more than adequate parking for cars at & near the northern end of this, very handy for I.M.T. - both paid-for parking, long and short stay, and free parking for customers of messers J. Sainsbury (grocers etc.) for half an hour up to two hours at a time. (subject to a reasonable & proportionate purchase being made within that time from that emporium) (conditions currently relaxed after 5pm)
Students, staff &c. at both S. Martin's College and the University of Lancaster, Bailrigg, may care to note that Sainsbury's've also laid on a Free bus service convenient for visiting IMT(!) on Wednesdays during term time;
advertised times of departure from the underpass at Bailrigg are: on the hour, from 11:00 through 18:00;
advertised times of departure from the S. Martin's are: ten past the hour, from 11:10 through 18:10;
advertised times of departure from the Sainsbury's are: twenty-five to the hour from 11:35 through 18:35;
(passengers will apparently be required to provide "a valid same day receipt from Sainsbury's Lancaster store for [their] return journey"; this shouldn't prove a difficulty, as they sell their own-label brand of 70%, Green & Black's Maya Glod (tm), and other "fair-traded" chocolate, Cafe Direct, Percol, & Union Coffee Roasters fair-traded coffees & i believe also some similarly-traded teas...)
"fair-trading" does make a difference - and a major difference, too - to the lives of the people who grow the cocoa & the sugar in the third world countries in africa & the caribbean; and likewise to south american, indian & african tea & coffee-growers able to deal with fair-trading organisations.) (- according to the producers themselves; some references for this available upon e-request from me; or google for 'em) (Green & Blacks' are not the only "fair-traded" brand of chocolate: Divine are another, buying from a farmers' co-operative the Day company helped set up, iirc; and there are more, besides.
Multimap I.M.T. is just about in the position of the terminal "d" of "North Road", in the approximate centre of the multimap.com map linked.
Streetmap The Hollow Red Arrow points to the position of I.M.T. on North Road, in the centre of the streetmap.co.uk map linked.
For the more adventurous, capable of contemplating a five minute uphill walk to the south side of the city centre, Single Step wholefood shop is well worth a visit (it is a workers' co-operative, which we set up in 1975, based upon the twin shops we founded in 1974), and the Whale Tail Cafe above it (not itself a co-operative, now; but - i am advised - working in a co-operative way) (i did eventually get around to asking, gareth; thanks for the correction) is one of the best in Lancaster.
(Oh - and yr hmbl srppnt. has & retains no financial interest of any sort in either of these.)
I.M.T. occupies one half of the ground floor of the old Ship Hotel building, approximately two minutes walk over the one-way system (and the small, triangular, short-term pay & display car-park) from Sainsbury's; the words "SHIP HOTEL" are displayed in large, friendly, green block capitals towards the top of the building's front - though it has not been a hotel for over three decades.
(The Shakespeare Hotel, on St. Leonardsgate, behind I.M.T. is a good, friendly guest-house, and one of Lancaster's best: book in advance, if you wish to be sure of staying there, as it is frequently fully-occupied: +44(0)-1524-841041 (& again, i have no financial interest.)
I.M.T.'s large, green front door is not intended to seem forbidding - or even ominous - and if it should ever seem the latter, recall that not all omens are evil... - "muhahahahahahahahahahaha..."
(you mare care to imagine an appropriately friendly, manic and demonic grin here...(*g*))
(Actually, I.M.T. is currently considerably tidier than has of late been the rule, thanks largely due to a Bombardier Beetle of Great Sagacity as well as 'Satiable Curiosity - thank-you, Beetle; you are an indomitable spirit - and also to Andrea (aka "AndraBath"), whose curiosity may be lesser, or may be simply otherly-directed, but whose sagaciousness was pleased to come and help, directing this ppint. and doing a lion's share of the work despite facing, and having to train, hordes of arachnids unused to her or to according her the respect properly due her, making marginally possible human (and other civilised lifeforms) occupation of the cottage, for at least short periods, and thus, the Bombardier Beetle's visit, and sterling endeavours; another good friend, and true.
Plus, more recently, clearing & construction variously by a whole crew of industrious and helpful friends including AndraBath (who even returned to help this ppint. sort out the results!);
(and another clearing & sometimes bullying blitz by another crew of friends, Joel'n'The Boss'n'Tom'n'Lena...)
Thank-you, all of you; love, ppint.)
